The
theme of rebellion is constant in this book. She sneaks out and
says goodbye to her dear friend Helen burns, as she is dying, which is against
school rules. She rebels against her foster mother Mrs reed, and her
family.She once stood up against Mrs. Reed saying "'My Uncle Reed is in heaven, and can see all you d and think; and so can papa and mama: they know how you shut me up all day long , and how you wish me dead'"(pg 21). Jane told Mrs Reed what she really thinks about her and that she hates her.
